Our History

Pure Mercy is a ministry that flows out of the abundant grace of God.  The genesis of the ministry was God’s intervention in David’s life.  Trapped in a downward spiral of sexual addiction, God finally captured David’s attention. Fueled by the mercy and forgiveness he received, David has determined to extend this mercy to those whom society disdains:  sex offenders and the chronically homeless.

Along with his wife and another faithful couple, the ministry began reaching out by making periodic trips to serve 75 or so homeless sex offenders living under a bridge in Dade County, Florida.  Clothing, generators, gas, and home-cooked meals were provided with the desire to make God’s love and mercy tangible in their lives.  In March of 2010, this community was disbanded, making it impossible to hold group events.

At the same time, the delivery of food to the chronically homeless in Pinellas County continued to grow. Currently, a home-cooked meal, a smile, and a prayer are delivered to roughly 45 people, every Sunday evening. Packaged food, clothing, toiletries, and transportation are offered, as available.  The result is that several have accepted the invitation to attend services at local churches. Most recently, Pure Mercy has been privileged to provide referrals leading to the placement of some of our ‘friends’.

In April of 2010, Pure Mercy was give the opportunity to offer weekly church services at a mobile home park in St. Petersburg that houses a large number of sex offenders. Many of these men are unable to attend traditional church services, due to legal restrictions. Pure Mercy’s weekly services begin with a meal, and are followed by singing and teaching.  In July, a Monday night bible study was added, as well. As a result, God has allowed David to establish a presence at the park, providing a needed spiritual influence.

Through the ministry at the mobile home park an introduction was afforded to a local motel where most of the residents are also registered sex offenders. We have had the opportunity to minister to this population as well on a weekly basis.

Pure Mercy continues to seek ways to reach these populations.  The grand vision is to one day offer a Christ-centered program that would provide healing, housing, and spiritual growth. We thank God, daily, for the mercy, grace, and forgiveness He has offered us, and seek to extend this to the people to whom we have been called.
